A Million Ways To Play And Learn

This summer, Hands-on House will celebrate our one millionth visitor! Thank you for being one of them! One million people have walked through our doors into a world of learning through play. They left with a million painted faces, a million smiles and a million reasons to come back. To commemorate this important milestone, Hands-on House will host a summer-long celebration with the theme One In A Million. All summer we will feature fun programs and activities, give-a-ways, special photo opportunities and surprises for museum members and non-members alike.

To begin our One In A Million summer of fun, we will host a kick-off celebration on Sunday, June 1st from 12pm-5pm. The public is invited to join us. On this special day we will offer door prizes, refreshments, and more.

As our way of saying Thanks A Million to our community, we invite children to donate a new, unused book for a child under age ten. Each child who donates a book will receive free admission to the museum on June 1st! Our goal is to collect enough books to reach one million printed letters to donate to children in our community. All books collected this day will be donated to the Success By Six program. Success By Six is the Early Childhood Education initiative of United Way of Lancaster County. 

Making the day even more fun, kids will have a chance to have their hair styled by the folks from Wild & Crazy Hair. They style hair for boys and girls in spikes, mo-hawks, ponytails, etc. using different colors of hairspray, glitter, extensions and more. Each child is sure to leave with a style that reflects their own one in a million uniqueness.

Children will also make and decorate their own set of souvenir binoculars to encourage them to keep on the lookout for the one millionth visitor all summer long. Rounding out the fun will be refreshments, door prize give-a-ways and our usual hands-on exhibit fun. Please plan to join us for this special kick-off celebration.

Throughout the summer, we will offer special One In A Million drop in programs that will teach kids how much a million really is as they travel under the sea, up in space and back in time. As a special thank you to our members, each time a member child visits this summer, he or she will have a chance to win a special one in a million t-shirt. This opportunity is only available to members.

While it’s fun to celebrate this important occasion, it’s even more important that we look ahead as we grow to meet the needs of our next million visitors. For them, we will continue to have new and exciting programs and fresh exhibits for the families who have promised to come back again and again-and those who are discovering us for the very first time.
