Hands-on House Children’s Museum of Lancaster is seeking a Summer Camp Assistant Director. The ideal candidate has experience working at summer camps, ideally a day camp. The Summer Camp Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting the Camp Director in running day-to-day camp operations over the summer, providing support and assistance to summer camp teachers, communicating with parents and volunteers, and setting up and maintaining camp supplies and materials. 


  • Experience working at a summer day camp, preferably in a leadership role 
  • 2+ years documented experience working with children, preferably in an educational or camp setting 
  • Strong communication and leadership skills 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and support a positive team-based atmosphere 
  • Ability to work outside for 5+ hours, be on your feet for extended periods, and lift 25+ pounds 
  • Professional demeanor 
  • Child and criminal security clearances, including fingerprinting, are required 
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or other related fields preferred but not required 
  • Available for at least 7 of 8 weeks of camp (running from June 12 to August 11 with the week of July 4th off) and staff training during the week of June 10-14 


  • Assist teachers in activity set up each morning 
  • Assist Camp Director in camper drop-off each day 
  • Lead all-camp rules and expectations each morning 
  • Check in with teachers throughout the day to assist as needed and ensure safety policies and procedures are being followed 
  • Respond to requests for assistance from teachers 
  • Direct and supervise teen volunteers 
  • Lead camper group games  
  • Sub for Group Teachers that are absent as needed 
  • Assist Camp Director with specified administrative tasks 
  • Assist Camp Director in running weekly staff meetings 


Other information: 

  • 25-28 hours a week during summer camp weeks 
  • Compensation: $16-18 an hour based on experience 
  • Seasonal, part-time hourly position
