Hands-on House Children’s Museum of Lancaster is looking for energetic, dedicated teachers for our summer camp. Our camp runs from 9-2 each day and serves children ages 4-10. The substitute teacher position would be available on call for specific weeks during the summer in case one of our full-summer teachers is on vacation or unable to make it. Substitute teachers would fill in for either zone teachers or group teachers. Zone teachers facilitate activities in one of our four learning zones: art, STEM, adventure, and play. Group teachers oversee camper groups aged either 4-5 or 6-10.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years documented work with children
  • Preference given to those with a degree or in the process of obtaining a degree in early childhood education, science education, art education, or related fields
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work outside for 5+ hours, be on your feet for extended periods, and lift 25+ pounds
  • Available for at least 3 weeks of the summer (preferably able to commit to a specific month)

Responsibilities:

  • Fill in for activity zone or group teachers out for planned absences
  • Fill in for activity zone or group teachers out for unplanned absences
  • Teach planned activities to children aged 4-10
  • Facilitate afternoon free-time activities
  • Supervise children during transitions, playground time, and lunch
  • Ensure camper needs are met
  • Direct and supervise youth volunteers

Other Information:

  • Average workday: 8:15-2:30
  • Rate: $12-14 an hour
