Overview

Hands-on House Children’s Museum of Lancaster is seeking volunteers who can help guide hands-on learning for children ages 8 and under. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, understands how they learn, and is dedicated to creating a nurturing, play-based learning environment. Play Lab Volunteers will be responsible for facilitating child-directed learning, resetting materials, and greeting kids and families.

Requirements:

  • Must have clear, up-to-date clearances if 18 years old or older (Child Abuse History, State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Background Check with Fingerprinting)
  • Must be able to commit to volunteering at least 4 hours a month 
  • Must be at least 16 years old

Duties:

  • Facilitate child-directed learning in our educational classroom, the Play Lab
  • Organize, maintain, and clean materials and classroom space
  • Reset materials as children play with them
  • Maintain a safe environment for all guests at Hands-on House
  • Inform guests of classes, programs, and upcoming events

Physical Demands:

  • Will be required to walk, reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Hours:

  • 2-4 hour shifts, depending on availability and need
  • Flexible hours; volunteers must commit to at least 4 hours a month

Hands-on House Children’s Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating fun learning opportunities for children aged 8 and under. At Hands-on House, adults and children play and learn together. Our exhibits, classes, and programs are short on lectures, and long on interactive, participatory activities.
