In 2020 Hands-on House will open a new exhibit designed to give young children a hands-on, developmentally appropriate experience with building and spark an early interest in the trades.
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Keystone Chapter, a trade association for the advancement of the construction industry, will be the main sponsor for the exhibit, titled HOH Construction Co.
By mimicking aspects of a real jobsite, through the tools and the tasks of the trades and an emphasis on safety, HOH Construction Co. will allow children to learn through play. The goal of the exhibit is for children ages 2-10 to gain a developmentally appropriate understanding of the trades through hands-on activities and creative immersion. The exhibit will also build awareness about the many career opportunities available in the industry and the skills that these jobs require. HOH Construction Co. will include a two-story play structure and several high-impact STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) features, as well as a variety of props and plenty opportunity for free play allowing imaginations to flourish.
In addition to ABC Keystone, the Building Industry Association of Lancaster County and Remco, Inc., as well as the Clark Associates Foundation and the Steinman Foundation have committed funding to this project as Trade Sponsors.
